P90X R2 Week 2 and 3 Update

Things have not been going so well over the last couple of weeks. I missed one session of Legs and Back when plans changed at the last minute and I had the opportunity to go home for a while. I ended up going to a bar that night with my bro and sis so that really helped screw up my day. Also, I missed one session of Shoulders and Arms last week. That really ticked me off since I won't be doing that workout again until week 9 and also I wanted to up my weight on some of the exercises to 30 lbs. So far, I have missed a total of 3 workouts.

I am now making an effort to fix my schedule and plans things ahead more so I don't end up missing workouts. This whole problem started because I started P90X too early. I should have waited until I started school again and got adjusted to my school schedule before starting the second round of P90X. Anyway, I think that I might have gotten myself on a better schedule now. I am waking up earlier now which should help when I start doing Doubles next week. I should also say that I am just now starting to put more of a focus on my diet.

That is about all the time I have to write this post.

Pizza Py Party 0.2.2

I spent a little time working on Pizza Py Party this weekend. The Domino's web site has changed pretty significantly since I logged in last and the script was broken in many places. I took the opportunity to try to clean up some portions of the code and some portions of the code have been rewritten. The page parser classes are the main portions of the code that got completely rewritten; the code in the old classes was so sloppy and unreadable. There have been tiny increments in most of the helper functions. There are plenty of other changes that could be made to clean up the code and make it acceptable by my current standards but those changes will have to wait. Anyway, here is a list of some of the changes for this version.

  • Program now works with updated Domino's site as of 01/19/2009
  • Page parser classes have been rewritten. Much cleaner and better structured code
  • Form handling regarding main pizza form should be more flexible now

Everyone must check out the site "I Have A Dreamcast". There is a group of people that are celebrating MLK Day by having a 24 hour Dreamcast gaming marathon. There will be blog updates throughout the day and there is a live stream of the action. I have only been watching the feed for about 20 minutes but there has been some interesting stuff going on already. The Dreamcast will always rule.

Not that much has changed with this release of YouTubed-2x. Here is a list of some of the more significant changes.

  • Changed the code to finally allow for an install program using Distutils
  • Fixed almost every broken parser except for the parser for 6.cn
  • Added forgotten Dailymotion URL to the test suite
  • Main script files no longer have the .py extension
  • User config is now saved in home directory under the .youtubed-2x directory

This application most likely won't be touched again for a while.

P90X R2 Week 1 Update

I won't have time to reflect on my week tomorrow since it will be the first day of classes for the Spring semester so I will reflect a little bit now. Last week started off great since my reps for "Chest and Back" and "Shoulders and Arms" were almost at what they were during my last week of round 1; Plyo kicked my butt worse than it has in a long time though. However, I missed Legs and Back on Friday and I couldn't really get myself into Kenpo on Saturday; I was too distracted on Saturday. X Stretch on Sunday was great. My body was sore most of the week but I am feeling fine today.

I have noticed some little differences in my body already. My gut has gotten slightly more defined. There is a little bit of vein action in my arms. I bet that there are some other things that I have changed that I haven't noticed yet.

That is about it for the update. There are a few other things I would like to bring up though. Unlike my last round, I will not be posting weekly tweeks on Twitter regarding my weight. I have pretty much lost as much weight as I want to lose so my current weight isn't that big of a deal to me this round. This time I will be focused on reducing my body fat percentage. I will post my progress regarding my body fat at the end of each phase. Also, I will try to get my round 2 day 1 video up soon.

Considering Learning PHP Again

I have been a Django fan for over a year and I used it to learn how to write web applications. I have written several web sites with Django although I have only published two. I think that I have learned a lot of things from my Django experience. However, most of the web sites that I run into and that I am involved with usually use applications written in PHP. A lot of web development work still revolves around PHP. So many web hosts support PHP while very few support Django. The couple of times I have helped with web applications issues, the work has revolved around PHP code.

I have learned enough PHP to be able to read other people's code but I have avoided writing any PHP myself. There was always the option to work with a PHP framework but I like working with Python much more. Anyway, I think that I should finally take the time to learn PHP again and develop some test applications.

I don't think that I have anything else to say. This is a really bad blog post.

Getting Ready for P90X Round 2

Tomorrow will be the first day of my second round of P90X. In preparation, I did a warm-up workout with Cardio X on Saturday and I did the fit test today. The Yoga segment in Cardio X gave me more trouble this time than it did previously. I didn't really bring it during most Yoga X days last round but I will make more of an effort to really bring it during Yoga X in my second round.

Another thing that I will do differently this round is that I won't ignore X Stretch. During my first round, I took rest days on Sundays instead of doing X Stretch except for the Sunday before the Phase 3 recovery week; my Sundays were pretty much entirely consumed by Discrete Mathematics homework. I felt much less sore after doing X Stretch that night and the next morning than I would usually feel after a rest day. X Stretch is a critical part of P90X and I know that now. I will do X Stretch every Sunday during my second round even if other obstacles get in my way.

As far as the fit test goes, I didn't lose that much progress so I should be able to get back into the grove of things pretty quickly. The biggest drop was for the wall squat test. My day 91 round 1 time was 2 min. 20 sec. but my day 0 round 2 time was 1 min. 41 sec.. For most every other test, I was able to perform just about as well as I did for the day 91 round 1 fit test.

I really hope to have some great progress this round. I will likely write posts periodically about my round 2 experience. There will definitely be posts when I upload progress pictures and videos.

Tomorrow is going to be awesome. BRING IT!

Updated on January 14th, 2009

I have been messing around with YouTubed-2x on my machine on occasion for the last few months so I am releasing my updates to the project. I can't remember most of what I changed but here are some of the noticeable changes.

  • Updated ffmpeg and wget commands so they work with the versions bundled with Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex
  • Added a small test suite
  • Started an effort to re-factor the code to allow for a true install
  • Pages are parsed in a thread so the GUI does not lock up
  • Supported sites option has been added to help menu. It will be updated regularly
  • Altered YouTube parser due to problems with some pages regarding high-quality versions. The problem does not seem to exist now. The parser now checks for a high-quality video download and will then revert to the standard quality version; old method parsed the video page for Javascript calls. Old example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zwvix7uEQg0

It should be noted that several of the parsers in the program are currently broken; they are noted in the test suite and in the site parsers file. If people want them fixed then I will make an effort to fix them as soon as I can. Otherwise, I will take my time to fix any parsers that I don't use that are currently broken.

New Year Resolutions 2009

I have yet to make a list of resolutions so I will post some here. Most of my resolutions will be goals that I should be able to easily achieve.

  • Finish a second round of P90X
  • Reduce my body fat percentage to around 8%
  • Study Japanese more
  • Do well in Physics class
  • Start working on software projects

I think that's about it. I had a longer list last year and I almost fulfilled all my resolutions.
